Estate papers offer an invaluable insight into the fortunes and misfortunes of landowners in Co. Wexford over a considerable timeframe, often preceding the Great Famine, through to the Land Wars, the Irish revolutionary period and Irish independence, through the effects of two world wars and on to the end of the 20th century. Records include rentals, maps, leases and other deeds, wills, marriage settlements and correspondence. Rentals in particular are a rich family history resource as they record tenants’ names and the acreage held by them. Marriage settlements provide an indispensable record of earlier land transactions while the day-to-day issues of family life and references to national events of the time can be reflected in family correspondence

Hughes family archive
Archive of Lorna Rosbottom (nee Hughes) relating to a history of Ballytrent estate, Co. Wexford. Collection includes rentals, property deeds, wills, marriage settlements, maps and family pedigrees. Pertains largely to the Hughes and Harvey families in Co. Wexford, but includes other tracts of the families in England and Wales. Lord Templemore estate
The collection relates to the running of three landed estates at opposite ends of the country, i.e.
- Dunbrody Park, Arthurstown, Co. Wexford;
- Burt and Inch, Co. Donegal;
- Coashquin and Whitehouse, Co. Derry
The Dunbrody estate includes the three fishing villages of Ballyhack, Arthurstown and Duncannon. Collection comprises manuscript deeds, estate rentals and accounts, estate maps, game ledgers and correspondence.
The Wexford element of the collection is part catalogued so access restrictions apply, however those interested in family history may be interested in accessing the abstracts linked to the townland estate maps in the collection which are based on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey maps, c.1840.
