Online access to Wexford County Council’s minutes, 1899-1997
The minutes of any organisation represent its core vital records which, in the event of a disaster, are irreplaceable. They document policy decisions adopted and the main concerns, issues and developments in terms of planning, housing, water services and road infrastructure in the county, in addition to how key events on a national level impinged locally. The minutes of Wexford County Council represent its vital records, and all volumes up to and including 1997 have now been digitised. Online access to these records will be available from early September 2013.
In a further effort to enhance access to the minutes, all the typescript volumes have been OCR-enabled. This will allow researchers to open a volume of minutes, enter a keyword which will then bring up all references to that keyword. (This feature will not apply to the first five volumes of minutes which are handwritten). The minutes of Wexford Borough Council (formerly Wexford Corporation) are currently in the process of being digitised and will be made available online later in the autumn.
